Mr and Mrs Anderson parents of William resided at 4 St Cuthbert’s Terrace, Dalton le Dale. William was a former pupil of Moseley Grammer School.

William and the crew of LL750 took part in raids over Munich, Essen, and Cologne.

LL750 took off from RAF Ludford Magna on the night of 27/28th April the target being Friedrichshafen because the town was the location of important factories manufacturing gear boxes and engines for the German tank force. The attack took place on a moonlit night, the bomber stream approached and bombed the target, however during the attack the Luftwaffe arrived and 18 of the 332 Lancaster’s were brought down.

Lancaster LL750 was one of two 101 squadron losses on this raid.

LL750 was shot down by Hptm. Gerhard Friedrich of 1/NUG. at 02.19hrs with combat taking place at 6.300metres. This was Friedrich’s 13th confirmed’ kill’ and he went on to claim a total of 30 aircraft ‘kills’
